Production Idea
I began thinking about the fact that I only had around 5 minutes to craft a film that was supposed to convey some kind of meaning, which quickly snowballed into remembering that we only have about 75 years to create something that has some kind of meaning.
My idea is to have a character who is vaguely aware of the fact that they are in a film with a limited amount of time, and that they are afraid of the end. I’d like to take some inspiration from The Gunfighter and have the character interact with some of the aspects of filmmaking. For example the sound, the colour, the editing, the aspect ratio. The narrative of the film would revolve around the character trying to have experiences before the film ends and their character no longer exists. For example, falling in love, experiencing nature, loss, laughter, etcetera. This aspect would be inspired by the man in La Jetee whose human experiences are able to save him from a post-apocalyptic nightmare.
While it is vague, I don’t want some kind of blade runner epic. I want a human story that manipulates the aspects cinema to portray what it’s like to try and create meaning out of such a small amount of time. Hopefully it’ll come together nicely, with some effort.
